In order to secure itself on the battlefield, the American army designs newer and newer toys. One of them is the latest vertical launch helicopter, which is being developed by Boeing and Sikorsky.
The machine will be built based on the X2 Demonstrator project and will be part of the Joint Phase-up of the Joint Multi-Role (JMR) Technology Demonstrator (TD) program, which aims to provide the next generation of vertical-flight combat units.
Sikorsky’s X2 Demonastrator, which first launched in August 2008, features two main rotors that rotate counterclockwise in the same axle and a rear propeller. Thanks to such a construction, on September 15, 2010, it was possible to establish an unofficial world record at a horizontal helicopter flight that reached 463 km / h.
The first phase of the proposal has already been submitted, but the winners will be selected later this year. A fully functioning helicopter should be ready by 2017.
